Linux botnet discovery points to lazy administrators

A recent “cluster” of Linux servers was used to distribute botnets. Is this a Linux problem or an administration problem? Jack Wallen dishes webmail tmnet his thoughts.

The industry is inundated with a plethora of internet phone line services. You have at your disposal various service providers that offer a varied of options at a very affordable price. Following are the leading internet phone line providers:

Vonage
This is a service that offers features like voicemail, call waiting, call forwarding, caller id, unlimited calling to any US and Canada land or mobile line for a price of $24.99. This company has been around for a while, they have gotten a lot of the kinks out of their system. Their international calling fees are also rock bottom. One feature that really stands out is their enhanced call forwarding simul-ring feature. What this feature offers is that should you be waiting for an important phone call but not be able to wait at home for it, you can set up your system to find you or your spouse by forwarding the call simultaneously to both parties at the same time until someone picks up.

Packet8
This system is geared more towards a business phone system - virtual office type of service. You get unlimited calling, auto attendant, full featured conference bridge and a business class voicemail. Currently they are offering this service for $24.99 per month for the fist year. With this service you are not limited to phone calls to a limited location.

Lingo
Here is another service similar to Vonage. fast broadband offer most if not all of the services that Vonage offers including the simul-ring feature but they offer different phone service plans. They offer plans from as little as $7.95 per month to as much as $29.95 per month. They are worth looking into.

Verizon
The advantage to a Verizon broadband telephone service is their bundled service feature. If you have a cellular, internet and internet phone service plan with them then it may make sense to go this route. But you will not notice the value of going with them for the broadband telephone service by itself.

Magic Jack
Though this is not considered an internet phone line, this adapter only works by being attached to a usb port on your computer. But this little guy is taking telephone industry by storm! They have a current promotion whereby they give you a 30 day trial offer to make all the phone calls you want. The initial fee is $39.99 for the first year. Every year thereafter will be $19.99 per year, not per month but per year. They are still new, but enhancing their service everyday. Very soon you will be able to switch your current phone number to this device.

Technology has avail not only a different playing field where the entrepreneur spirit has been ignited and engaged but by doing so, making consumed products and services more accessible and available for all consumers. Soon consumers will have more access without the heavy price tags attached to it.

If I were Menara Telekom an internet phone line provider for the first time, I would consider Vonage as it has a proven track record, they have been around for at least 5 years and offers a lot of features that suits my lifestyle. But I would keep a close eye on Magic Jack, as soon as I am able to switch my phone numbers to their system, I really would not have any reason to continue paying $25 per month for a service that I can get for $20 per year. These are exciting times when you can see where our telephone options have expanded to in as little as 10 years.
